The NJIT Makerspace offers a variety of training courses to educate members on the safe and proper use of our equipment.
Training Courses
Makerspace training courses are designed to educate members on the safe and proper use of our equipment and the policies and procedures of the space. Most equipment requires that members take a specific course on its use before operating it.
Prerequsites: None
Description: The starting point for new members, this course introduces users to the policies and safety procedures of the space and provides basic training for simple hand tools.
Prerequsites: Make 101
Description: An introductory course required to use the Makerspace's Laser Engravers. Briefly covers the basics of laser engraving and cutting including basic maintenance and operation, file preparation, starting, monitoring, and removing a jobs. You must have taken Make 101 - Introduction to the Makerspace, prior to taking this course.
Prerequsites: Make 101
Description: An introductory course required to use the Makerspace's FDM 3D printers. Briefly covers the basics of 3D printing including basic operation, model preparation and slicing, starting, monitoring, and removing a print. You must have taken Make 101 - Introduction to the Makerspace, prior to taking this course.
Prerequisites: Make 101, Make 103
Description: Building on Make 103, Make 203 covers stereolithographic 3D printing, a printing process that involves curing a photopolymer resin layer-by-layer. Briefly covers design considerations, slicing, starting and removing prints. You must have taken Make 101 & Make 103, prior to taking this course.

Description: MAKE104 is an interactive training that will cover the basics of 2D & 3D modeling utilizing Autodesk Fusion 360 software, offered for free to students. Participants will learn to navigate Fusion 360 software and its features, as well as the basics of creating 2D sketches and the 3D modeling operations that can be done with them. Focus is placed on how modeling software plays a part in manufacturing, specifically at the Makerspace! Participants are strongly encouraged to bring laptops with Fusion 360 installed and an active Autodesk account to the training. A 3-button mouse is also strongly recommended. You must have taken Make 101 prior to taking this course!
Prerequisites: Make 101
Description: MAKE105 will cover the basics of utilizing common engineering measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.) and reading an engineering detail drawing. Trainees will have a hands-on opportunity to measure a test part with said measuring tools at the conclusion of the training. You must have taken Make 101 prior to taking this course.
Prerequisites: Make 101
Description: Make 240 will cover the basics of woodworking and protocol related to our woodshop in Phase 1, specifically related to the five main pieces of equipment in our woodshop: the table saw, band saw, miter saw, drill press, and sanders. A hands-on component is also included/required during this training for full woodshop certification. You must have taken Make 101 prior to taking this course.
Introduction to Manual Milling and Turning
A multi-day course covering the basic operation of manual mills and lathes.
